Today we want to refresh our memories and remember, why Kazan is considered as the third capital of Russia and why it is definitely worth to visit.

Kazan – is the capital of Tatarstan Republic and one of the largest and most beautiful cities in Russia with a very rich history and unique culture. It was founded more than 1000 years ago and today it considered the 3rd capital of Russia (guess what is the previous one?) Kazan is home for more than 1 million people of different nationalities, mainly for Russian and Tatars. 

The capital of Tatarstan Republic is a strong economic and educational center. It has many universities and research institutes and attracts entrepreneurs and foreign investors from different parts of the world. 
Of course Kazan has a huge variety of amazing sights and secret places where every tourist can fell the pure spirit of this region. Today we a going to talk about some of the most significant places of this incredible city. 


The oldest part of Kazan and its main sight - Kazan Kremlin. It is a complex of architectural and historical monuments, which hold the centuries of the rich history of the city. Here you will find remains of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd settlements, the Kremlin of white stone, the residence of the President of Tatarstan, Spasso-Preobrazhensky Monastery, Kul-Sharif Mosque, 8 towers, Mausoleum of the Kazan khans, Museum of Islam, and other fascinating buildings. 

The symbol of Kazan Kremlin is Tower Syuyumbike, named for Syuyumbike queen - one of the legendary women in the history of the Islamic world. The tower is mostly known for its strong vertical incline, for which it called « the Leaning Tower». The deviation from the main axis of the tower achieves 1.98 m!

No one knows the exact period when it was built. That is why there are lots of secrets and mystery legends going around this tower. According to one of them it was built in 7 days by the decree of Ivan the Terrible, who wanted to take Syuyumbike a wife, but she threw herself from the seventh tier of the tower.

Temple of All Religions

Temple of All Religions is a majestic construction, which symbolizes symbiosis of different religions, civilizations and cultures. It the worldwide unique architectural complex combining Orthodox and Catholic church, a Muslim mosque, a Jewish synagogue, a Buddhist temple, Chinese pagoda and many iconic elements of the various world religions, including the symbols of lost civilizations. But it does not act as usual religious building, no church or ceremonial services are carried out there. 

Besides the cultural value it has a very impressive appearance: bright massive and cupola, each having a unique color and form, stained-glass windows and other beautiful details.

The Temple is modern, and it is still under construction. In already open pavilions you will find art gallery, art school and concert hall, where creative workshops and concert events are taking place.

Kul-Sharif Mosque

It is main mosque of Tatarstan and one of the largest Muslim temples in Europe. It was named for the last Imam Seid. Beautiful architectural complex, it was built on the place of the legendary mosque of the Kazan Khanate, which was destroyed during the assault troops of Kazan by Ivan the Terrible in 1552. The re-establishment of the mosque lasted for almost ten years - from 1996 to 2005 and was conducted on donations.

The building is very impressive and beautiful. The windows of the dome of the mosque, which is decorated as "Kazan cap", are carved in the shape of tulips. The complex has 4 main minaret with the height of 58 meters! Inside it fascinates with a lot of light, ceiling, painted by tatar artists, and with huge chandelier, which is made of colored glass and crystal. For excursion groups there are viewing balconies inside, so you can enjoy the incredible view on Volga river.
