Kazan city tour.
Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, is located in West-central Russia on Volga River. It was once the capital of the powerful Tatar Khanate before being annexed to the Russian Empire after its defeat to Ivan the Terrible in 1552. . Almost 500 years later, the city remains a mixture of both Tatar and Russian heritage. It is a bilingual city with signs in both Russian and Tatar languages. Kazan is home to numerous cultural and historical sites including the Kazan Kremlin, which was declared a World Heritage Site in 2000. -
Kazan Kremlin.
This magnificent architectural ensemble is the only extant Tatar fortress in Russia. It is framed by high white stone walls with characteristic loop-holes and thirteen hip-roofed towers. The Kazan Kremlin consists of an outstanding group of historic buildings dating back to the 16th through to the 19th century, including remains of earlier structures from the 10th to the 16th centuries.
